Mix tape
the short film mix tape is a very nostalgic film to watch depending on
what age range you are from, the title sequence is a cassette player very well
known in the late 80s to early 90s before Cd's came out, the title of the film
is a mix tape, a combination of songs that hold meaning to the person making it
normally given out to loved ones or friends however younger generations will
not experience this as it is all digital now, this is why the target audience
for this short film is an older one. I would say adults aged 28-45 would get
the most out of this film in a nice nostalgic way.
The actor chosen for the boy was a good choice as he has an unnatural
child like innocence, when sitting listening to music it is hard to put a time
frame on when this is meant to be shot as the mise en scene of the scene is
looking more retro than modern, he has a cassette player, big chunky headphones
even the light on his desk used is a late 70s style lamp, a lot of thought and
time went into the mise en scene, personally I really enjoyed the effort put
into the boys costume he looks smart and modern but also could pass for a boy
growing up in the 80s. All of these components put together shows the audience
this boy has really been influenced by his father, this is another target
audience fathers who have young boys as it is a very feel good film for fathers
seeing the influence a father can have on a child, this really links in a bit
later in the short film when the boy delivers the mix tape he says 'it's a mix tape, some of my dads old music, she'll like... I think', the mother of the girl feels a
real sense of nostalgia in this scene, the audience can tell from her smiling
facial expression and her body language towards the boy changes. Making her
seem like a little girl receiving a mix tape.
Then choice of music helps to raise the age of the target audience as well, it very well-known 80s songs. However the actors used especially the
little girl bring the attraction for children and teenagers back to enjoy this
as a short film, the girls room is very modern and pristine whereas the boys
room is more retro and messy allowing for a range of boys and girls to enjoy
this short film. the cute relationship between the neighbours is a big
attraction but also the camera styles and shots used in the scene are very
powerful as well.
A split screen of the two children in neighboring rooms is a really
nice shot using the wall as a cut through, both children look content and happy
as the song comes to an end both are mirroring each other.
A god analysis.
ReplyDeleteA very nice little film - won quite a few rewards.
